The Tallian Calendar

The Tallian calendar, so named for Nedward Talli in 12 Fnd is based upon an event known as “Foundation” or Fnd, which is the year that the Council of Nine was formed .

Ember rotates upon its axis 368 times in the time it takes to orbit the planet’s sun, Aro, a single time. Talli , being a profoundly religious man, split the year into eight identical periods called “months” which were each named for Ember’s Gods of the Light, minus Ben’tinnor. Each month is 46 days.

The months are named as follows:

  • Ainin after Ainna – first month of Spring
  • Narlos after Narl – second month of Spring
  • Ashin after Asher – first month of Summer
  • Guyin after Guydan – second month of Summer
  • Paigos after Paig’n – first month of Fall
  • Gennos for Gen’mara – second month of Fall
  • Thanos for Thane – first month of Winter
  • Staehr for Staehr – second month of Winter

Weeks are each seven days and are named as follows:

  • Sunday
  • Fieldday
  • Washday
  • Marketday
  • Bottleday
  • Huntingday
  • Feastday

On Ainin 1st, the calendar always jumps from Markeday to Sunday as the week resets to keep the day of the week consistent from year to year.
